At its August 9, 2006 meeting, the QVLOA Board of Directors, with the overwhelming support of the members in attendance, approved adoption of the Neighborhood Watch program for Quail Valley.
This program is sponsored by the Lake County Sheriff's Office, and has a reputation for deterring criminal intrusion by non-residents into the communities where it has been adopted. |
Report of August 9, 2006 Meeting At tonight's meeting, the homeowner association board voted in favor of initiating a neighborhood watch program here in Quail Valley! Needless to say, I am so happy that they voted in agreement, and I would like to thank all of you who have helped and supported my efforts to see this well needed program initiated here in our community. This could not have been accomplished without each of you, and I am extremely grateful. I am now in the process of planning our first meeting, and I am awaiting the return of Deputy Wolf from his vacation next week in order to work out a convenient time with him to be able to attend the meeting and address concerns, provide tips, etc.. As soon as I hear from him, I will be in contact with each of you. I welcome any ideas, suggestions, etc.. that you may have with what direction you would like the program to take, so please feel free to contact me anytime. Volunteers for block captains are still very needed, so if you feel that you have the time to offer, please don't hesitate to contact me. |
Report of October 4, 2006 Meeting Thank you so much for coming to the first “official” neighborhood watch meeting this evening. I can’t tell you how much your concern and interest that this program is initiated in our community means to me, and I will look forward to working with all of you to get this program off to a good start. As we discussed, I have placed an order for the window decals by email this evening with the National Sheriff’s Association. Here is the link to their website, as it is full of interesting, informative facts. http://www.staysafe.org/. Please take a moment when you have some spare time to take a look at all of their content. As soon as I receive the decals, I will be in contact with all of you by email to let you know, as I would be happy to drop them off at your homes as soon as they arrive. I will be calling the City to schedule our next meeting, which I hope, depending upon availability of space, will take place next month. Please be on the lookout for an email with the meeting announcement as soon as I get a confirmation. In the meantime, I would ask each and every one of you to think of any ideas that you would like to see our program develop. This is our community, and this program should address the concerns of all of us as a whole, and work to benefit all in Quail Valley. I would like to hear back from anyone who has an interest with regards to volunteering to be a playground/lift station monitor/ block captains, and at our next meeting, we will discuss these roles in further detail. Also, I will be sending out another email early next week with regards to this evening's discussion about approaching the renters in our community, to inform them about our program. I have made some extra copies of the newsletter, which may come in handy. |
Oct. 27, 2006 - Neighborhood Watch Decals Now Available During the discussion at the first meeting of the Quail Valley Neighborhood Watch Program on October 4, 2006, the ongoing problem that we have been experiencing with regard to placing a “Neighborhood Watch” sign for our development was brought to our attention. As discussed during previous QVLOA monthly meetings, the land located at the entry to our community is legally not ours, as two companies (one a division of Banyan Homes, the other the company that owns that big display sign that you can see from the road) currently own the land on either side that our entry sits on, and our lot owner's association is currently negotiating with the two entities for a permanent easement. However, until this is finalized, a sign at the entry cannot be placed. Although the Quail Valley Neighborhood Watch Program is determined to get a sign up, will be seeking updates from the new board about this ongoing situation at our monthly meetings, and will continue trying to work with the City to see what can be done. So, in the meantime, the residents who attended the first neighborhood watch meeting on the 4th, were shown an adhesive decal sponsored by the National Sheriff’s Association, that makes mention that our community is a neighborhood watch participant. All the residents assembled expressed great interest in receiving them, and an order was placed. Good News!!! The decals have arrived, and I am currently in the process of dropping them off at the residents on my list from the Oct. 4th meeting. Click here to view an image of the decal. The decals will also be available at the annual meeting of the Quail Valley Lot Owner‘s Association on Monday, October 30, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at Minneola City Hall. Thank you all for your continued support and interest. |
Nov. 7, 2006 - Quail Valley Neighborhood Watch Update, from Jennifer Bode Hello Everyone!!! I want to share with all of you an article that I read in the Sunday, November 5, 2006 edition of the Orlando Sentinel. According to the article, Lake County has had a significant decrease in the amount of serious crime during the first six months of 2006. Although the amount of robberies has increased, the Lake County Sheriff's Department attributes the drop of street-level crimes (DUI, narcotic busts) to community neighborhood watch programs around Lake County, that work closely with local law enforcement. Please keep aware of what's going on around you and in your neighborhood, and always, if anything is suspicious, contact the Lake County Sheriff's Department.
